ON FRIDAY, December 7, the Grove Road and South Street shops will staying open till late for Christmas shopping. There will be a festive market, Santa Claus and Reindeer with his Grotto, kid’s Treasure Trail, and Sovereign FM Road show.

ALSO ON Friday, at 7.30pm, Harpist Fiona Hospord will be presenting a programme of music, Beatles to Light Jazz, in the Underground Theatre, Grove Road, 7 pm. Tickets available TIC, from 0845801926 or at the door. On the Saturday coffee morning, 10am –noon, Kevin Barber will play various songs on his guitar and mandolin.

ON WEDNESDAY, December 5, the Eastbourne Conservative Association has a “Politics Plus” morning at the Biddendum Bar, Grange Road, from 11am. The guest speaker will be councillor David Elkin, talking about local children’s services. David Horne, local entertainer will read some Christmas Sketches from Charles Dicken’s novels. There will be a raffle to raise funds for eight year old Hayley Okines, suffering from a debilitating condition.

A ‘CHRISTMAS Celebration’ with the Salvation Army takes place at the Royal Hippodrome Theatre, Seaside Road at 7pm. on Thursday , ecember 6. This popular concert includes items from the Band, the Songsters, the Timbrels and Young People as well as Carol Singing with the audience. Tickets are available from the Congress Theatre Box Office or the TIC.

THE Eastbourne and South Down’s Philatelic Society has a show of stamps by Flo McCarthy at 7.30pm, on Thursday December 6, entitled ‘Irish Postal History’. Thisis upstairs of the St. John’s Ambulance Brigade HQ, Bourne Street. Visitors are always welcome.

TODAY, Tuesday, December 4, Donald Handley will give an illustrated presentation of ‘The Nativity through the eyes of Artists’ at the St. Andrew’s URC Guild at 2.30pm. A warm welcome is extended to all.

ON SATURDAY, December 8, The Eastbourne Rambling Club has a 5-mile foray through Friston Forest, meet at Exceat Visitor Centre 10am. It should conclude by 12.30pm. And on Sunday, Mahmud will lead a ‘Beautiful Valleys’ walk, starting at Eastbourne Down’ Golf Club, 9.35am, finishing 3pm- a 9 mile easy walk with one hill. Call 07958 014456 for details.

THE TOWNER Gallery is hosting a family ‘Drop In’ on Sunday, December 9, 11.30am and 3pm where special Winter Mobiles may be made using natural or synthetic materials. Children must be accompanied by an adult (£2 donation towards the cost of materials).

ALSO on Sunday (December 9) The Willingdon School of Dance present a Christmas show for all ages, ‘It’s Christmas’ in the Winter Gardens at 2.30pm and 7pm. The presentation will conclude with a traditional Nativity which will be danced.

THE SOVEREIGN Polyphony will give a Choral Concert in All Saint’s Chapel, Meads at 7.45pm. Tickets £5 with proceeds for the Eastbourne Blind Society.

FROM December 11-13, local primary school choirs, accompanied by a Youth Orchestra, will be singing Christmas Songs in the Congress Theatre at 5.30pm and 7.30pm.

THE KING’S Centre, Edison Road is open on Tuesday, December 11, 2-4.30pm and 5.30 – 8pm where you can donate a pint of blood.

‘TOADSTOOL’ is an ‘under 21’ parent group meeting in the Devonshire Children’s Centre, Seaside, on Tuesdays 12.30pm-2pm. There are visits from various organisations, as well as being able to learn about the child’s development
