Down Your Way: Stone Cross

ST LUKE’S Church has stood at the Stone Cross crossroads, opposite the Red Lion public house and the Stone Cross Memorial Hall, since being built in 1924.

The church has a large parish covering all the village of Stone Cross and all of Langney, north west of the shopping centre, and is officially known as the Parish of Stone Cross with North Langney.

St Luke’s is in the Diocese of Chichester. Sadly, the Church became derelict in 1974 and stood unused and unloved until being re-opened in the Spring of 1988.

St Luke’s is now a thriving, lively church, worshiping in an inclusive modern catholic tradition.

The church has a wide age range of worshippers and children and families are especially welcome and welcomed.

They are particularly proud of the excellent congregational singing, and their warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Building of the Parish Centre, adjacent to the church, was started in March 2001 and the official opening of the centre took place in April 2002, although use was made of it during the previous month.
