THE FRIENDSHIP Club for senior citizens will not meet tomorrow (Thursday April 12, but weekly meetings resume on Thursday April 19 in the lounge of Duke Bernard Court, Latimer Road, from 2.15pm to 3.45pm.

Members meet on a social basis to chat over a cup of tea, or take part in quizzes and games.

A WHIST Drive for everyone who enjoys a friendly game of cards will be held in St Augustine’s Hall of Christ Church on Thursday April 12 starting at 2pm. The cost is £2.50 per person. For more information ring Gladys on 720885.

DAME Margot Hamilton will provide comedy and song at two Ladies’ Lunch Club lunches on Wednesday April 11 (ladies only) and Thursday April 12 (gentlemen allowed).

The larger than life mezzo soprano, who has had a varied career that has ranged from appearing in recital with Dame Felicity Lott and members of the D’Oyly Carte Opera Company to playing Lady Bracknell in The Importance of Being Earnest, will be introduced by The Dowager Lady Crabtree.

The lunches will be at the Langham Hotel at 12noon for 12.30pm each day and can be booked by calling 731451.

THE RNLI, local branch, next meets on Friday April 13, when the talk will be about A Year in the Life of the Mayor.

In February, the mayor officially opened the recently refurnished RNLI Lifeboat Museum in Eastbourne.

RNLI branch meetings are held in the West Dean Suite of the Langham Hotel at 10am for 10.30am, and admission is £1 which includes a raffle ticket.

THE PUDDING and Wine Club will be having an early St George’s Day celebration on Friday April 20 at 12noon for 12.30pm, when the best English food will be served, accompanied by a different English wine with each course. To book, call 731451.

JAZZ Sunday Lunches begin at the Langham Hotel on Sunday April 22 between 12noon-3pm, with the Carl Greenwood Trio performing American Songbook jazz standards, and will be held monthly throughout the year.

CHRIST Church’s Annual Parochial Church Meeting, which is open to everyone who lives within the parish of Christ Church, will be held at 12noon on Sunday April 22 and will be chaired by the Rural Dean, the Very Revd Jeffery Gunn.

Currently in an interregnum, parishioners will be updated on the appointment of a new priest for Christ Church with St Philip, and will receive progress reports on major works that will be carried out in the coming months, which will include the installation of new central heating in the church, plus a toilet for the disabled, and an additional kitchen in the base of the tower so that tea and coffee can be served easily to visitors during the week and to members of the congregation after services.

Christ Church has also recently been awarded a grant of £4,500 from Sussex Historic Churches Trust towards essential repairs to the Memorial Chapel roof.

COFFEE Mornings at Christ Church are taking a break over the Easter holidays.

They will begin again on Wednesday April 18, from 9.30am onwards. Free computer training will also be available.
