At the tender age of fourteen Marie Stone achieved her first published image - a poster for the Mohair Centre. Postcards of the Hailsham Pavilion were also taken by her.

Marie spent her Work Experience at Madame Tussauds and was invited back on a freelance basis six months later. She has travelled the world taking photographs of celebrities for them including Morgan Freeman, Samuel L Jackson, Tom Jones, Nicholas Cage, Jerry Springer, Bet Middler and Mohamed Al Fayed.

Two hundred images and 226 measurements are taken for each sculpture. A tray of eyeballs (for matching purposes) is entertaining to explain to airport security, but necessary for the sitting. Human hair is added to the models. It is washed, and makeup retouched regularly. Being the same size, Marie’s feet were modelled for Lady Diana’s sculpture.

In 2007 Marie took the images for Harrods “Chairman’s Choice” Christmas Hamper worth £5,000. Inside were whole hams, cheese rounds, bottles of wine, a fruit basket, chocolates, Christmas cake and more.

Marie has published two books. Her latest is Beauty is Within. which has been accepted by the British Library. Forty of her images are being used by Silver Stamp, an online greeting card company, and she has been featured in ETC magazine.

The North Hailsham and Hellingly Residents Association are meeting on Friday May 4 at Union Corner Hall from 8pm to 9.30pm.

During the past few years over 1100 new homes have been approved in North and East Hailsham and Hellingly and now have been built or are in the process of being built. Wealden are now going to build a further 700 homes on the previously rejected Bloore site plus 600 east of Battle Road. Earlier in the year plans were viewed, a public exhibition was held and the public were invited to submit comments and requests. Peter Reynolds, Chair, attended many Wealden and Town Council Planning meetings and spoke of the concerns raised on the residents’ behalf. These plans affect you and your families. Both Wealden and your Residents’ Committee would like your opinion on this and other local issues. What better than to go along to the meeting on May 4 and find out more.

PCSO Faye Fletcher for Hailsham North Ward is looking into setting up a Community Speedwatch for Hailsham North in response to residents’ concerns. Initially a survey has been made looking at possible sites for the area for this to take place. A minimum of 6 members are needed for Speedwatch so she has been looking for members who want to spare some time to conduct speed checks. A meeting will be held once members have been identified, to discuss the roles and responsibilities for Community Speedwatch.

If you are interested in taking up a role in Community Speedwatch or have any other issues you wish to raise she can be contacted on 07787 685752.

The next local meeting will be held on Saturday 23rd June at 12pm at Hawkes Farm School Summer Fete.
