Two men have died after separate incidents in Hailsham this week, police said.

Yusuf Hossany, aged 62, from Chestnut Close in Hailsham, fell off a ladder while decorating at a unit in Diplocks Way.

He was taken to the Royal London Hospital after the incident at 4pm on Saturday (December 14) by air ambulance.

Police said he died there on Sunday (December 15).

A spokesperson for Sussex Police said the Health and Safety Executive has been informed.

On Tuesday (December 17) another man died after a vehicle he was working on collapsed on him.

The 62-year-old from Hailsham, who has not been named, was found dead under a car in a garage in Downash at 7.36pm.

The incident happened in a garage workshop in an industrial estate in Saltmarsh Road.

A police spokesperson said, “The man from Hailsham appeared to have been working under the vehicle alone when it collapsed on him.

“Emergency services freed him but could not revive him.

“There is a joint investigation between the Health and Safety Executive and police.”

Police have not yet named the man but he is expected to formally identified in the next few days. An inquest into both men’s deaths has been opened and adjourned by East Sussex Coroner Alan Craze until next year.

A spokesperson for the Health and Safety Executive said it was likely the investigations into the two men’s deaths would take several months.
