Southern Rail says there is currently a problem under investigation between Hampden Park and Pevensey and Westham which is causing the delays.

Train services running through these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 20 minutes or revised, the rail company said.

Disruption is expected until at least midday.

According to Southern, there are delays of up to 20 minutes for trains heading from Eastbourne towards Bexhill, Hastings and Ore.

Trains on the following routes may be affected:

- Brighton to Hastings / Ore

- Eastbourne to Ashford International

Southern says it will try to provide replacement transport for any cancelled trains on the Eastbourne to Ashford International route.

Passengers are advised to speak to staff if travelling on the 09.49 Eastbourne - Ashford International service, as taxis will need to replace this train.

Alternatively, if you are waiting at a station which does not have any staff, and your train is cancelled, use the Emergency button on the station Help Point for information.

Southern are waiting to confirm whether a bus can run instead of the 11.25 Ashford International - Eastbourne service.

Network Rail engineers have been sent to site to inspect the track, and trains will run at a reduced speed as a safety precaution.
