VANDALS left a £10,000 trail of destruction after running rampage at Treaure Island on Eastbourne seafront in the run up to the Easter weekend.
A police officer discovered the amusement arcade within the park in Royal Parade had been broken into on Wednesday April 20. He disturbed the intruders at around 10.20pm and they ran off.
Its entrance door had been smashed, an outside cupboard was broken into and contents thrown about.
The vandals smashed up machines in the arcade, daubed white paint all over the play equipment and also broke in to the crazy golf hut.
A group of youths ran off when they saw the police officer approaching.
Officers at Eastbourne Polie are now appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact Sussex Police on 0845 60 70 999 quoting serial 2032 of 20/04.
Tracey McNulty, the senior head of tourism and leisure at Eastbourne Borough Council, said, “I can confirm that swift action has been taken following the break in at the Treasure Island site including increased security patrols and extra steel barriers at entry points. Graffiti has been covered over.
“There has been a high level of interest in the site from potential operators with dozens of enquiries. We are hoping there will be a number of firm offers in the very near future.
“The council is working closely with administrators Begbies Traynor to ensure the site is back in action as a leading regional tourist attraction as soon as possible.”
