Demelza Hospice Care for Children receives a royal award for its great work

DEMELZA Hospice Care for Children has received the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service – generally recognised as the MBE for volunteer groups.

The announcement about the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the highest awards given to volunteer groups across the UK for outstanding work, was made on Saturday June 2. The honour is given to those who regularly devote their time to helping others, to those who improve the quality of life and opportunity for others.

As a winner Demelza, which has hospices in Sittingbourne and Eltham and a community nursing team in East Sussex, will receive a certificate signed by Her Majesty the Queen and a domed glass crystal. Last year volunteers contributed nearly 104,000 hours, costed at national minimum wage this was a contribution of £675k of physical resources, and almost 60 full time equivalent employees.
