DEDICATED volunteer Wynne Dougill is the February winner of the Eastbourne Resident of the Month Award.

Wynne has volunteered her services to the DGH for the past 27 years, first in the canteen then in the Friends Flower Shop. Now aged 90, she still enjoys working one afternoon a week in the popular hospital shop.

Wynne lived in Newcastle for a number of years, where she began her voluntary work after her husband died. She received a long-service award from the WRVS and then, when she moved to Eastbourne in 1983, she continued her voluntary work.

The Resident of the Month is sponsored by Advanta Chartered Accountants and the Eastbourne Herald and is awarded to recognise the contribution a person has made to the town.

Yiotis Diomedou, director at Advanta, met Wynne this week to present her with a special certificate.

Yiotis said, “Wynne began volunteering after her husband died when she was in her late 30s. For over half her life she’s been dedicating her time to others, which is an incredible achievement, not least because she single-handedly brought up her three children during this time. She’s a popular face in the busy hospital flower shop and a very deserving Resident of the Month recipient.”

Wynne and a friend are now looking forward to a complimentary meal for two at Ridgways restaurant in Meads.
