Dancers all get set for world championships

Award winning dancers from Eastbourne and the surrounding areas have once again qualified for the World Dance Championships next year in Romania.

Members of the Zoe Pennington Dance Academy will be in Team England for the showcase, which is taking place in Bucharest next June and July.

At this year’s World Dance Championships in Portugal in the summer, dancers from the school came back with a host of silverware.

The 30-strong team of dancers were up against more than 3,000 youngsters from 38 countries and the eight to 18-year-olds performed group dances as well as solo pieces.

Zoe Pennington from the academy said, “We are honoured to have been asked to dance 18 dances this time with a strong team of 34 dancers in total.

Last year we were so successful winning gold silver and bronze for our country.

“I am so proud of them all.

“The dancers can’t wait to do it all again and the next thing for us is to start fundraising in the new year.

“We will be hosting fundraising events to help with travel, accommodation and costume cost.

The competition runs next year from June 27 to July 4.

This year the dancers began fundraising in March to raise the £14,000 needed to the competition. Local companies offered sponsorship. Hailsham Rotary Club sponsored dancers’ hoodies with Hailsham Lions sponsoring T-shirts. McDonalds Drive-thru in Eastbourne also provided tracksuits and holdalls.
