Police in Hailsham have arrested a local man for criminal damage at the town’s medical centre.

Officers on foot patrol in Hailsham town centre discovered that a wall at the side of the medical centre had been damaged just after 10.30pm on Friday 6 March. A piece of the wall had been dislodged and was on the ground.

A group of young people were found nearby, and a 19-year-old man was arrested. He was released on bail until March 25 while police make further enquiries.

Sergeant Mark Ritchie, from the Hailsham Neighbourhood Policing Team, said, “Crimes like this have a negative effect on communities, making residents and business owners feel unsafe. This swift arrest is a positive outcome, but enquiries are continuing, so I would urge anyone who saw any suspicious behaviour in the area around the time the incident happened to contact Sussex Police.”

Anyone with information should email or call 101, quoting serial 1689 of March 6.
