SEAFORD: Councillor on threats’ charge

A SEAFORD town councillor is due to appear in court today (Wednesday January 26) charged with using threatening words and behaviour towards a police officer.

Councillor Barry Groves is said to have committed the offence during the aftermath of a minor shunt near his home.

The 66-year-old, who is a former police officer, was not involved in the accident but is said to have approached PC Louise Didcott and urged her to clear the road in order for traffic to move past.

The Marine Drive resident is accused of shouting and swearing at the officer.

Cllr Groves was charged with obstructing the police and using threatening words and behaviour. He is due to appear at Lewes Magistrates Court today.
