Police increase patrols after rise in garage break-ins

Police have increased patrols in Eastbourne after a recent spate of garage break-ins which have lead to multiple bicycle thefts.

Sussex Police reported nine incidents between March 1 and March 4.

Police said a property in Milton Road had bicycles stolen after suspects climbed a fence and forced open garage doors to gain entry.

A garage off Victoria Drive was broken into during the daytime of March 4, according to police, and suspects forced entry through a garage door.

Police said another garage break-in on Filching Way was attempted on the evening of March 2 and CCTV may help to identify the suspect youths seen by a neighbour.

Officers reported that a property on Leslie Street had its cupboards and drawers searched after suspects gained entry on the evening of March 2.

Police said suspects got into a garden off Green Street by climbing a fence and then proceeded to smash glass at the property overnight between March 1 and 3.

Bicycles were stolen from a garage in Winkney Road during the day time of March 3, according to police, after suspects forced open the door.

Police reported that a racing bike was stolen at a property in Willingdon Park Drive on March 3 after suspects used tools to remove secure locks from the shed door.

Police said four males on bicycles were seen by neighbours in a garden at a property in Alfriston Close on the night of March 2. Items were dropped by suspects at the scene and seized by police.

Attempted garage break-ins have been reported by owners in Eversfield Road overnight on March 3 and 4.

A Sussex Police spokesperson said, “Patrols have been increased in affected areas, and all lines of enquiry are being looked into by Eastbourne Prevention teams following the recent spate of garage break-ins, if you see or hear anything please let us know by reporting at the time to 999 for a crime in action, or 101/online if it has already happened.”
