Police appeal for witnesses after man is attacked

A MAN was chased, beaten and robbed by two men in Eastbourne town centre.

The attack began in Langney Road at around 8pm on Sunday April 10 and continued after the victim tried to escape in Tideswell Road.

The 30-year-old man, who lives locally, was walking along Langney Road near the Post Office when he was punched in the face.

He dropped his mobile phone and was struck a second time by his attackers and fell to the ground.

He tried to run away but was assaulted again in Tideswell Road and robbed of cash and personal items.

Detective Constable Alex Campbell from Eastbourne CID said, “We are keeping an open mind as to the motive behind this robbery. Forensic examinations of the scene are being completed and neighbourhood officers are speaking to residents.

“From CCTV we can see a group of three to four people and a number of other people who may have seen what happened.

“Anyone with information is urged to contact police immediately.”

A 45-year-old man from Hastings has been arrested on suspicion of assault and robbery and a 25-year-old man from Hastings has also been arrested on suspicion of robbery.

They have been released on bail until May 8 pending further enquiries.
