Man appears in court after Eastbourne accident

A man has been charged with a number of driving offences following a collision in Eastbourne town centre at the weekend.

Officers were on patrol in the early hours of Sunday morning (March 22) when they activated the emergency signals to request a vehicle to stop in Leslie Street.

Sussex Police said the vehicle continued and moments later was involved in a collision with a stationary vehicle in Ashford Road.

Steven Stewart, 35, unemployed, of Maxfield Close, Eastbourne, was arrested and charged with driving while disqualified, failing to stop for police, failing to provide a specimen for analysis and using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of violence.

He appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on March 23. He was released on conditional bail to appear before Hastings Magistrates’ Court on May 4.
