HAILSHAM: Woman attacked in her own home

AN 86-year-old Hailsham woman was subjected to a frightening attack after a burglar forced his way into her home.

Police were called to the property in Stoney Lane, Hailsham, just after 8.30pm on Wednesday January 12 after two men knocked on the elderly victim’s front door before one of the men forced his way in to her home.

Once inside her home, he pulled the telephone out of the socket and opened a writing bureau in the hall although Sussex Police said nothing was stolen.

“This was a very frightening attack on an elderly woman in her home and fortunately she sustained no major physical injuries,” said Detective Sergeant Andrew Harbour.

“Officers are conducting house to house inquiries, viewing CCTV and forensic examinations are being carried out,” he added.

One of the suspects is described as white, 5ft 10in tall, in his late 30s to 40s, with a thin face and was wearing a dark hooded top and bottoms.

The other suspect is described as white in his 20s and was wearing a dark top with an orange stripe running down both sleeves.
