HAILSHAM: Weekend curfew on woman who kicked in doors

A HAILSHAM woman who kicked in the glass doors of a Chinese restaurant in a drunken rage has avoided prison.

Tamsin Smith was at the Jasmine Garden Chinese restaurant in the town’s High Street and was at the counter when she lit a cigarette and began drinking from an open bottle.

The 27-year-old was asked to leave but said she was waiting for a friend and wasn’t going until they got there.

Eastbourne Magistrates on Wednesday February 23, heard that staff believed the Lundy Walk resident seemed drunk and when she left, she kicked out at one of the doors.

After leaving the business, the doors were locked and the defendant started shouting and kicking the door causing one of the panels of glass to break.

After being put in a police vehicle, Smith began kicking out again and caused damage to one of the doors.

She pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal damage and being drunk and disorderly.

Smith was sentenced to eight weeks in prison suspended for 12 months for both criminal damage offences to run concurrently and placed under a four month curfew over the weekends.

She was also ordered to pay £75 in compensation and £85 in costs to the CPS.
