Neighbours say a white van was seen in the area at the time.

Within 24 hours of the theft, a fundraising appeal was set up and more than £300 has so far been donated.

A friend of the lady said, “She had been saving it up over time to have her trees and hedges cut in her back garden. She loves her garden and is quite poorly so this has obviously devastated her.”

Donations can currently be dropped off in a sealed envelope to the Castle Inn in Pevensey Bay or via paypal to [email protected]
