Drugs seized and arrests made after police raid and town centre checks

THREE arrests have been made and drugs seized after police executed search warrants and carried out checks in the town centre on Monday.

Officers from the neighbourhood response teams carried out spot checks and arrested three people for possession of controlled drugs, and other related offences. Three people have been cautioned for drug offences.

A drugs search warrant was also executed, where drugs, and other crime-related property was recovered. Two women were arrested and later released on police bail to return to Eastbourne custody centre on May 5.

Michael Jones, of no fixed abode, was arrested for a breach of an anti-social behaviour order. He appeared before Eastbourne Magistrates’ Court, and received four weeks in custody.

During the same period, officers from the neighbourhood operations team carried out a search of a premises in Ashington Road, Eastbourne, where more than 35 cannabis plants were found with a street value of around £5,000.

A further search of a nearby premises also resulted in the recovery of property, which officers suspect was stolen in a recent burglary.

One person has bee cautioned for a drug offence and police are trying to trace a burglary suspect.

Insp Charlie Connaughton said, “We continue to target those individuals who persist in committing offences, and attempt to undermine community safety. We will continue in our efforts to arrest, disrupt and prosecute anyone who is intent on leading a dishonest lifestyle.

“We continue to work with the community and all our partner agencies in trying to keep Eastbourne as safe and secure as possible.”
