Court hears man threw flour over pregnant wife

A MAN hurled flour and honey at his heavily pregnant wife during a row, a court heard.

Matthew Lee admitted assaulting his wife Maria Andrade in front of their young child and was given a conditional discharge by magistrates at Eastbourne on Monday morning.

Forty-one-year-old Lee, of Roman Croft, was arrested after the incident with his wife in October last year.

Claire Prodger, prosecuting, said Lee’s wife did not sustain any specific injuries in the attack but she was heavily pregnant and the couple’s daughter was with them at the time.

Madeleine Priestley, defending, said her client had been suffering from depression which had been made worse by a drink problem and the medication he was taking plus they were heavily in debt.

She said, “He and his wife are fully reconciled and are making a go of their marriage. He has turned himself around and stopped drinking.

“Fingers crossed for him that he manages to reverse all these negative factors in his life. He is humiliated and embarrassed at having to appear in court for this offence and is very apologetic.”
