COUNTY NEWS: Police issue photos of man after '˜attempted rape'
Police have issued photos of a man they want to speak to after an '˜attempted rape' of a woman.
Officers investigating the attempted rape of a woman on her way home in Brighton in the early hours of the morning have issued three CCTV stills of a man they would like to trace and interview.
According to police, the photos show the man on a N25 night bus as it was travelling between North Street to the Lewes Road junction with The Avenue around 1am on Thursday (21 July).
A statement from Sussex Police said: “A man, described as white, 5’5”, wearing a light grey hoody and dark trousers, had been following the 20-year old woman as she walked home along Auckland Drive, Bevendean, shortly before 1.30am on Thursday (21 July). She had got off the same bus.
“As she reached her own address and turned into the garden he jumped on her, but she screamed and he ran off.
“She was unhurt but very shaken, and nothing was stolen.
“Detective Inspector Lee Horner said: ‘It is still an isolated incident. There have been no previous reports of anything similar to this in the area, or indeed in Brighton recently, and we want to identify and talk to this man as we feel he may have valuable information.’
“If you can help in any way please contact the police via [email protected] or call 101, quoting serial 129 of 21/07.
“You can also contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 (www.crimestoppers-org.uk).”
