A GANG of professional burglars who targeted Cheers Wine Store in Eastbourne stealing thousands of pounds in cigarettes and alcohol have been jailed.
The three man gang from Kent and London rampaged through Sussex and Kent stealing £71,000 in property and left a trail of £25,000 damage in their wake.
In Eastbourne they struck at Cheers in Willingdon Road, stole goods worth £5,000 worth of goods and caused £1,000 of damage.
Two of the gang members, Mark Lawman, 43, from Gillingham, and Christopher Goodbrand, 54, of Woolwich, were sentenced to five and a half years each at Maidstone Crown Court this week.
The third member of the gang, Justin Manville, 39, from Maidstone, was jailed for three years. All three pleaded guilty to conspiracy to burgle.
Judge Philip Statman said as he jailed the trio that they had worked together before and said, “All three of you knew you were playing for high stakes. No doubt there was a ready market for the cigarettes and alcohol that went missing – the booty from your crimes.”
He said they had carried out a series of “well planned” burglaries which were “professionally executed.” The court heard that CCTV cameras had been disabled and phone wires cut to disable alarm systems during their rampage.
