Appeal after garages broken into in Hailsham

Thieves have targeted a number of garages in Hailsham.

Wealden police said on Facebook that garages off Harmers Hay Estate have been broken into.

A spokesman said: “A number of garages off Harmers Hay Estate in Hailsham have reported garage break-ins over the last week – as such we are advising local residents to check the security of their garages.”

The spokesman said the force has increased patrols in the area and officers have spoken to victims to obtain any lines of enquiry.

They added: “If you have seen or heard anything suspicious in the area, please let us know about it by calling 101, or visiting our website and reporting online.”

Wealden police have issued the following tips to secure your garage: “Does your lock, lock? Is it in working order, not rusty or easy to break?

“Have you got any tools around your garage? Put them away, don’t give thieves the tools they need to get into your property.

“What do you store in your garage? Are bikes and expensive items registered, marked or insured?”
