EASTBOURNE College students scooped a clutch of prizes at the recent Young Craftsman of the Year Competition at the South of England Show.

For the second year running, the top prize in the ceramics category went to a College pupil.

Competing in the Under 21 event, 17-year-old Dennis Kang not only won the ceramics section with his creative design but was also judged to have the third best exhibit overall in the competition which covers five different categories.

Harry Villa was awarded first prize in the wood category for his contemporary dual-functional oak chair/coffee table while Amy Corfield and Jody Deans were placed second and third respectively in the Design and Technology section for their designs, models and business plans for the South West stand of the Sussex County Cricket ground at Hove.

This project mirrored the live project being undertaken by architects Miller Bourne and the pupils were mentored throughout the project by architects from the practice.

Jody Deans also picked up the prize for the best entry in the Under 17 category while Megan Lloyd received bronze in the ceramics category.
