The following are court results for the Eastbourne area at Hastings Magistrates' Court from January 26 - February 1.
Muhammad Jamal-Khan, 42, of Seaside Road, Eastbourne, was found guilty of assaulting a woman by beating her. The offence took place at Old London Road, Hastings, on September 20. The court made a community order, with a requirement of 120 hours of unpaid work and ordered him to pay £620 in prosecution costs. Magistrates also issued a restraining order.
Stephen Borst, 31, of Redoubt Road, Eastbourne, pleaded guilty to being in breach of a non-molestation order by sending text messages, The offence took place between December 16 and 18. The court made a community order with requirements to attend a domestic violence course and complete 100 hours of unpaid work.
Becky Deniro, 31, of Hyde Gardens, Eastbourne, pleaded guilty to stealing fragrances and electric toothbrushes from Boots, in Eastbourne, on December 11. The court made a community order with a 12-week electronically monitored curfew between 7pm and 7am and a drugs rehabilitation requirement.
Martin Croud, 30, of Linden Close, Hampden Park, pleaded guilty to three charges of entering buildings as a trespasser with intent to steal. The offences took place at Farmlands Way, Polegate, on October 23; Holly Place, Eastbourne, on October 30; and The Broadway, Eastbourne, on October 16. He was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison, suspended for 18 months and ordered to pay £457 in compensation. The court also made a community order with a requirement of 200 hours of unpaid work. Magistrates said the reason for the custodial sentence was because of the number and nature of previous convictions.
Carl Bailey, 35, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to stealing fragrance, worth £200, from Boots, at the Arndale Centre, Eastbourne, on December 14. He also pleaded guilty to stealing fragrance worth £70, and fragrance worth £59 from the same store on December 12 and 24. He admitted stealing three shirts, worth £129.98 from TK Maxx, at the Crumbles, Eastbourne, on December 31; a bottle of Champagne, worth £17.42, from Co-op, at Eastbourne on January 2; a bottle of whisky, worth £17, from Waitrose, at Eastbourne, on January 27; and a bottle of cognac, worth £35, from Waitrose, Eastbourne, on January 23. The court made a community order, with a requirement to have treatment for drugs dependency, and ordered him to pay £192 in compensation.
Lukasz Borys, 35, of Harrington Road, Brighton, pleaded guilty to failing to provide a breath specimen for analysis when required to do so by police. The offence took place at Northdown Road, Newhaven, on October 5. The court made a community order, with a requirement of 100 hours of unpaid work and banned him from driving for three years.
Peter Lonergen, 32, of Hurst Lane, Eastbourne, was found guilty of assaulting a woman by beating her. The offence took place at Grand Parade, Eastbourne, on August 25. He was also found guilty of being drunk and disorderly in a public place at Grand Parade, on the same date. In addition he pleaded guilty to two charges of assaulting a woman by beating her, at Langney Road, Eastbourne, on January 23 and to stealing hair straighteners, worth £89.99, from the Grove Experience, in Eastbourne, on November 14. He admitted being in breach of supervision requirements imposed on release from prison for earlier charges of domestic violence and being drunk and disorderly, He was sentenced to a period of six months in prison. Magistrates said the reason for the custodial sentence was because of his record of previous offending.
Gillian Collins, 65, of The Promenade, Pevensey Bay, pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention. The offence took place on the A259 at Hooe, on January 9. She was fined £120 and her driving record was endorsed with six penalty points.
Dean Hobbs, 36, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in a public place. The offence took place at Eastbourne Probation Office, Orchard Road, on January 6. He was given a six-month conditional discharge.
David Rice, 31, of Upper Shoreham Road, Shoreham, pleaded guilty to driving a Renault Clio on Lottbridge Drove, Eastbourne, on November 19 with cannabis in his bloodstream. He was fined £120 and banned from driving for one year.
Devante Green, 38, of Ashford Road, Eastbourne, pleaded guilty to driving a BMW car at Tesco car park, Lottbridge Drove, on December 1, while over the drink-drive limit. He gave a breath alcohol reading of 50 microgrammes. The legal limit is 35mg. He also admitted to being in possession of the Class A drug cocaine and driving with cocaine in his blood-stream; driving without a licence and insurance at Eastbourne on the same date. He was sentenced to 26 weeks in prison, suspended for two years and banned from driving for five years. The court also made a community order. Magistrates said the reason for the sentence was because of the seriousness of the offences and previous convictions.
Karlen Tovmasyan, 39, of St Kitts Drive, Eastbourne, pleaded guilty to driving a Mercedes vehicle at Bexhill Road, St Leonards on January 16, with no insurance or MOT. He was fined £150.
