One of Sussex’s main attractions has been closed this weekend for repairs after a breakdown.
The British Airways i360 tower on Brighton seafront will be closed today and tomorrow for maintenance after passengers were stuck for more than an hour on the viewing platform yesterday afternoon.
British Airways i360 said a broken cable was the cause of yesterday’s breakdown.
Passengers posted pictures on social media of a portaloo-style tent which was erected in case anyone needed the toilet while they were stuck.
A statement from British Airways i360 said: “British Airways i360 will be closed this weekend for maintenance. We apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused.
Pre-booked tickets for this weekend will be valid for three months for customers who wish to visit on another day, subject to availability.
“For refunds please call our customer services team on 03337 720 360 – our lines are open from 9.00am – 5.30pm.”
The landmark stands at 162 metres high, and is situated near the former entrance of the West Pier, which was destroyed by fire.
It was also closed in September after breaking down for two hours.
