Countdown to Eastbourne’s bonfire celebrations

Work is underway to prepare for Eastbourne’s annual bonfire procession.

Eastbourne Bonfire Society will lead a torch-bearing parade along the seafront on October 3.

Torch-bearers dressed as pirates, sailors and other exotic characters will set-off from The Crown and Anchor on Marine Parade and head down to Fisherman’s Green before turning back towards the Wish Tower.

Eastbourne Borough Council lead cabinet member for culture, tourism and enterprise, Cllr Margaret Bannister said, “Bonfire season is particularly special in Sussex, with events and bonfire celebrations commencing from the beginning of September through to mid-November.

“The Eastbourne Bonfire Society is passionate about the tradition and the procession always creates a really great atmosphere that people of all ages can enjoy; it’s just one of the numerous special autumnal traditions which visitors to Eastbourne can enjoy.”

The procession will feature drumming performances by Stix Rhythmic Drummers, the King Fisher Scout Band and many more musical groups.

Eastbourne Bonfire Society will take part in the procession alongside more than 15 other bonfire societies from Sussex and Kent,

The procession takes place between 7.30pm and 9pm and is a fun and free family friendly event which is funded by the Eastbourne Bonfire Society through various events throughout the year, including the Steampunk Masquerade Ball which takes place on Saturday September 12.
