In line with the Government cap, residents in a Band D property will be charged £246.84.

The largest element of the council tax bill is levied by East Sussex County Council (74 per cent), while Eastbourne Borough Council (12 per cent), Sussex Police (nine per cent), East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service (five per cent) receive much smaller amounts.

Councillor Stephen Holt, Cabinet Member for Finance, said, “In Eastbourne, we have had a successful track record of delivering efficiencies without the need for cuts to any frontline services.

“This is only the third council tax increase in eight years.

“However, with no grant funding from central government, the situation has become increasingly challenging and the task of finding these huge savings is very difficult.

“In our commitment to be as efficient as possible, we will continue our shared services programme with Lewes and look to generate new income streams.”

Following consultation the level of council tax will be recommended to Council in February 2019.
