Council cash helps to improve town

Residents in Old Town now have an extra spot to sit and enjoy their picnic, thanks to funding from the Devolved Budget Scheme.

The existing picnic bench in Motcombe Gardens proved so popular that ward councillors spent £1,043 on an additional bench after several residents complained there were not enough places to sit.

Elsewhere in Old Town, £2,055 was given to the St Michael and All Angels Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme to help young people prepare for expeditions and in Devonshire ward the Matthew 25 Mission, which supports homeless and vulnerable people, requested £939 to buy garden equipment so clients could grow their own fruit and veg and improve the area surrounding the centre. Councillors also gave £250 towards planting a replacement tree in Pevensey Road to enhance the look of the neighbourhood.
