Six youngsters in Polegate have been selected to receive cash prizes following an art competition initiated by the town’s mayor.
Up to £50, £30 and £25 will be awarded to the top three of the 11-16 age category and £25, £15 and £10 to the under 11s winners.
The winners will receive their prizes and certificates from the mayor, Cllr David Watts (pictured, left), at 5pm on Monday, October 5, in the council chambers.
Varied pieces of artwork on the themes of landscape, close-up/ portrait, pets and Polegate under snow were submitted to the free competition, which opened on Saturday, August 1 and closed on Friday, September 4.
The winners were chosen by four independent judges: Claire Martin-O’Donaghue, head mistress of Polegate School, Annabel Cottingham, owner of the local community cafe, Janet Cole, Mayor of Eastbourne (pictured), and Nick Engelfield, an artist and art teacher.
The judges selected Caleb Goldsmith (1st), Phoebe Townsend-Line (2nd) and Joshua Brinkley (3rd) as the top three of the 11-16 age category; the under 11s prize winners were Natalia Bednarz (1st), Ethan Brinkley (2nd) and Hannah Jones (3rd).
The winning entries will be displayed for two weeks from October 5 from 9am-1pm in the council chambers and afterwards in the local community café.
