Sussex Downs College is teaming up with Hazel Court and The Lindfield School to launch a support group for carers of young adults with learning difficulties and disabilities.
Parent Carer Community Group was launched at Sussex Downs College recently. The aim of the collaboration between the college, Hazel Court and The Lindfield School is to give parent carers of young adults with learning difficulties and/or disabilities, an opportunity to meet in an informal setting and share ideas and experiences.
The event was well attended by parent carers which encouraged an honest and lively discussion.
The catering, provided by the young adults in Foundation Learning, underpinned the success of the event.
Regular meetings like this will be held throughout the year to offer support and guidance on post-education issues and provide information on key topics relevant to young people and their families.
These will include presentations and speakers from organisations, such as school transport and the disability team.
It is hoped parent carers will have an active voice in local decision making and will be able to make recommendations for change.
