The civic service for Eastbourne politician and campaigner Beryl Healy takes place this morning (Monday).

It is at St Mary’s Parish Church in Old Town at 11am and will be followed by a private family funeral at Langney Cemetery.

Mrs Healy, 79, died in a freak car accident earlier this month when she was run over by her own car at her home in Pococks Road on the Rodmill estate.

She was a former Eastbourne mayor, leader of Eastbourne Borough Council, prominent Liberal Democrat campaigner and politician. She was also a leading volunteer at the Eastbourne branch of the Samaritans.
