The founder of the Children With Cancer Fund has been crowned Resident of the Month for July.
Chris Downton founded the Polegate-based charity in 1998.
From small beginnings, over the years, the charity has steadily grown to provide help and support to hundreds of families through traumatic times.
Chris and his wife were invited by the Queen to a garden party in Buckingham Palace and the charity was presented with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in July.
Chris and his family are constantly thinking of ways to enrich the lives of children with cancer and this year plan to take 200 children to a Christmas panto. The fund present thoughtful gifts to St Wilfrid’s Hospice for the children and provide ongoing care and support to families.
Malcolm Toghill was delighted to present Chris with this award for his generous dedication and enthusiasm.
As part of his award, Chris will also receive a complimentary meal for two at top local restaurant Ridgways in Meads Street.
The Resident of the Month Award was introduced to recognise unsung heroes in the local community and has been running for many years.
It is jointly sponsored by Advanta Chartered Accountants and the Eastbourne Herald. To nominate someone email email@example.com or call 01323 411222.
