A BUDDING writer has reached the final 50 of Chris Evans’ BBC Radio 2 short story writing competition called 500 Words.

Chhyal Patel, who is in Year 7 at the Eastbourne Academy, penned a story entitled The Two Sons.

To reach the final 50, her story was first judged by The National Literary Trust, and then by an expert judging panel – which included Chris Evans, Jacqueline Wilson, David Walliams and Charlie Higson.

There were more than 40,000 entries to the competition and, for the final stage of judging, Chhyal will attend the live outside broadcast of Chris Evans’ Breakfast Show at the Hay Festival of Literature and the Arts in May.

Her story will be on the BBC Radio 2 website in May.
