WORK on the new multi-million pound hospice is coming on apace despite slight delays caused by recent bad weather.
As our pictures show, the Broadwater Way build is starting to take shape and staff at St Wilfrid’s are hopeful it will still be ready by November next year.
The charity’s chief executive Kara Bishop and her team decided to move the hospice to a new, purpose-`built and state-of-the-art home in order to meet growing demand.
And, once open, it will be able to help almost twice as many people as the hospice’s current base.
As well as patient bedrooms, the hospice will also have community rooms, office space, a coffee shop, a garden and even its own orchard.
The cash for the new building was raised by donations and fundraisers – including an anonymous £15,000 gift – but the charity is still desperate for cash to meet the ongoing costs of running such a specialist operation.
