An afternoon tea has been held to celebrate the launch of Wealden District Council’s retirement living service.

Council Chairman, Cllr Chris Hardy, led the occasion at Church Bailey Court in Westham.

Guests included local councillors, partner organisations, and staff from Council-managed courts.

Other Wealden District Council staff and residents’ representatives, involved in helping shape Wealden’s older people’s services, were also present.

Cllr Hardy was keen to demonstrate Wealden District Council’s continuing commitment to providing high quality retirement living accommodation, which used to be known as sheltered accommodation, and unveiled a new website portal which will take prospective residents and their families straight to all the information they need when considering a move.

The event was also the ideal time to unveil Wealden District Council’s new logo for the older people’s housing service and accommodation and introduce the dedicated team of retirement living managers who provide on-going housing support and peace of mind to residents.

Cllr Hardy said, “Wealden District Council continues to invest in its retirement living accommodation, which we believe is among the best in the area.

“To highlight the quality of our older people’s service, we have given it a fresh name and logo, and the afternoon tea was the perfect opportunity to introduce our new website portal for prospective residents and their families.

“The website has had a lot of work carried out on it by various members of the Housing and IT teams to make it easier to navigate, more attractive and more interactive.

“The site links to parish council information, application forms and Google Maps, so potential residents and their families will find all the information they need in one place.”

Church Bailey, where the event was held, is retirement sheltered housing in Westham with 40 one and two bedroom flats.

It includes mobility standard properties, a large residents’ lounge, hairdressing, adapted bathrooms, laundry rooms, guest room, lift, free wi-fi and parking. There are also regular activities and outings.
