The standalone CCTV units have been funded by three of Eastbourne Homes’ Area Panels.

The Central & Archery, Hampden Park & Willingdon Trees and Langney panels raised £15,000 to fund the units which will move to different locations around the town as they are needed.

“Fly tipping can be a real nuisance and we are doing all we can to prevent this,” said Neighbourhood First manager Tim Whelan.

“Not only will the presence of CCTV deter anyone considering fly tipping, but we also hope it will capture vital evidence for anyone who is caught and allow us to prosecute them.”

In the past five years, more than 2,200 reports have been made of fly tipping locally and it is down to Eastbourne Borough Council to meet the cost of removing the offending items.

It is a particular problem in Hampden Park & Willingdon Trees so its panel has paid more to fund an individual CCTV unit for the area.
