A cheque for £1,000 has been presented to the cardiac rehabilitation unit at Eastbourne DGH by a grateful patient, his wife and friends.

The Hampden Park Fundraisers raised the cash by holding a jumble sale and collecting donationn, following the care given to resident Ken Cole, who received a triple bypass in April 2013.

Ken’s wife Kathy said, “We wanted to do something to say thank you for all the unit has done for Ken, words can’t describe how wonderful we think this place is.

“When Ken was coming here we were amazed at how many other people were also coming here following treatment, and we hope the money we’ve raised can be put towards some new equipment for them.”

The Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit helps people who have suffered a heart attack or who have heart disease to achieve their full potential in terms of physical and psychological health and well being. The rehab team’s work involves a structured programme of education, psychological support and exercise training, enabling healthy lifestyle and behaviour changes.

Phillippa Acton, cardiac rehabilitation specialist sister, said, “It is our pleasure and privilege within the Eastbourne Cardiac Rehab and Cardiology unit to meet and offer help and support to people such as Ken and his wife. Their kindness in arranging this fundraising event is very much appreciated. I would like to express my sincere thanks to all of the fundraising committee involved for their hard work and effort.

“We look forward to utilising the funds to improve the equipment and facilities available to support our cardiac patients with their recovery and life-style changes.”

The Hampden Park Fundraisers will also be supporting the annual cardiac rehabilitation sponsored walk along Eastbourne seafront on Sunday July 20 at 10am. Money raised will be split between the Cardiac Rehab Unit and the British Heart Foundation. Anyone who would like to take part or sponsor the event should call the Cardiac Rehab Team at the DGH on 417400 extension 6238. In the evening, there will live music from Strum ‘n’ Bass at The Dolphin, South Street, from 8pm. Free entry, with donations going to both good causes.
