Busy Eastbourne road to close tonight

The road is expected to close from 8pm tonight (Thursday) until 6am tomorrow morning so contractors can reinstate the lines on the carriageway.

A spokesperson at East Sussex Highways said, “We will be starting at the King’s Drive junction and working our way towards Lottbridge Drove.

“Access to businesses will be maintained but drivers may have to take the diversion route. “

It follows resurfacing work last week when the road was closed for four days on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The closure caused traffic chaos on other routes in and out of the town as drivers tried to get from one side of Eastbourne to another.

The county council’s highways department has been carrying out the work and says the result will be a smoother, safer road, which will be better able to cope with the demands of continued traffic for many years to come.
