Trading Standards Information and Advice: Local Life Show a success!

On Saturday 19th March East Sussex County Council ran the fourth Local Life Show at the Winter Garden Theatre, Eastbourne.

Organised to promote honest and fair trading across East Sussex the Local Life Show is a family occasion with plenty of entertainment for all.

The show gave people the chance to talk to over 100 exhibitors, to watch demonstrations on cookery & home improvements and to buy local produce, jewellery, cards, paintings and other accessories. Visitors were also able to meet representatives from local councils and other caring services

This years show also featured a children’s area hosted by Mr and Mrs Doak’s Bumper Bookshop for Boys and Girls as well as free face painting and balloon modelling from Crazee Hazee the stilt man.

Among the exhibitors were valued members of the County Council’s Buy with Confidence and Support with Confidence Schemes as well as a food market hosted by East Dean Market, a craft area with stalls from the Creative Co-Op and cookery demonstrations from the Community Chef.

The event was sponsored this year by The Eastbourne Herald, Waitrose Eastbourne and Moira House Girls’ School.

Entertainment was provided throughout the day with dance performances from Willingdon and Park School of Dancing and a fashion show choreographed by A-Level students from Moira House Girls’ School. The students who assisted in choreographing two fashion shows, modelled clothes kindly supplied by Gecko of Station Parade Eastbourne and Gossypium of Lewes.

Sponsors Waitrose Eastbourne also supplied two luxury food hampers, one awarded to Claire De Lune Bridal of Eastbourne for having the ‘best stand’ as selected by Councillor Simmons, Chairman of the County Council. The second hamper is due to be delivered to one lucky visitor to the show who will be drawn from the entries into the prize draw advertised across the county.

Feedback on the Local Life Show from exhibitors and visitors has been extremely positive and Trading Standards are delighted that in tough times we have been able to support local traders and put on a wonderful day for consumers to remind everyone of how many customer focussed businesses there are in our county and how together we can help East Sussex prosper.
