Number of benefit claimants in Eastbourne has fallen by 14 per cent

THE NUMBER of people claiming work benefits in Eastbourne and Willingdon has fallen by 14 per cent in the last year.

President of the Eastbourne & District Chamber of Commerce, Christina Ewbank, and Eastbourne MP Stephen Lloyd, welcomed the encouraging news.

In February 2010, 2480 people claimed Jobseeker’s Allowance compared with 2126 last month. Ms Ewbank said, “It is very encouraging that so many different people are working together to see the town through these difficult economic times.”

Stephen Lloyd MP added, “There is absolutely no room for complacency though, which is why in the coming months the MP’s Commission will be launching an apprenticeship’s initiative to keep job opportunities flowing.”
