The new specialist service Employ Me offers personalised support to enable people with a learning disability to find paid work and develop the skills they need in the workplace.
Mencap will also work closely with employers in East Sussex to ensure they can provide the right level of support and help people with a learning disability get the most out of the service.
It is estimated that there are 10,183 people in East Sussex with a learning disability.
Simon Parkinson, director of Mencap’s employment services, said, “We know that people with a learning disability want to work, but sometimes need more support to do so.
"That’s why we created Employ Me. We’ve had great success across the country supporting people in to paid employment.
"I’m delighted that we can now do this in East Sussex.”
Employ Me works with the individual to find out what job they want to do and the support they need to do it.
Although the goal is often to find paid employment, work placements and training opportunities can be arranged to develop skills and build confidence.
Mencap is the largest provider of services, information and advice for people with a learning disability in the UK.
