In May, former Chamber presidents, directors and leaders of Eastbourne Borough Council attended a special ceremony in honour of Eastbourne resident George Turner.
George was presented with a glass sculpture by Eastbourne’s Mayor, Cllr. Pat Hearn (pictured) in recognition of his lifelong commitment to the town both as a former President of the Eastbourne Chamber of Commerce, and for his years of service during the war as a messenger for the civil defence force.
Former President Mark McFadden led the dedication to George along with Cllr. David Tutt, Leader of Eastbourne Borough Council. Mark said “I have known George for many years, but listening to him quietly talking about the contributions he has made to the town, in such a modest and unassuming way, it is clear he is someone who loves the town and has dedicated his life to service”
A modest George however, reinforced how he had merely served the best town in the UK - and outlined that at the age of 90+ he plans to continue doing so for a while yet!
