AN ESTABLISHED and successful Eastbourne-based business has been praised for its treatment of young apprentices and has been given a national award.

Caffyns, one of the region’s leading car dealers, which has its headquarters and three dealerships in the town, beat hundreds of entries to become the South East Apprenticeship Employer of the year 2012 in the large employer category, recognition of the commitment the company has shown to apprentices for more than 150 years.

Sarah Caffyn, HR Director and Company Secretary at Caffyns, collected the award at a ceremony at the O2 in London on Thursday (September 20) and will now go on to compete in the national awards at the NEC in Birmingham on November 14.

She said, “Winning a South East Apprenticeship Award is fantastic recognition of our long standing commitment to nurturing bright and enthusiastic apprentices and guiding them to full-time employment within the Caffyns group. As a company we have a long tradition of training and developing our people”

The win is not the first time Caffyns has been recognised for its apprenticeship scheme. Earlier this year the firm won the Employer of the Year Award and the IT Apprentice of the Year award from Northbrook College.

Caffyns apprenticeships have been in place since the late 1860s and the company continues to recruit new apprentices each year for a variety of different positions.

Currently, Caffyns employs 35 apprentices, making up almost 10 per cent of the entire workforce.
