Building work starts on Eastbourne town centre site

Building work is underway in Eastbourne town centre after final plans for a five-storey block of 11 flats and garages were approved.

Contractors are on the site of the old County Court in The Avenue.

Planning permission was originally granted for the development in 2007 but council officers recently gave the green light to minor changes.

The old courthouse closed - with cases being relocated to the Law Courts in Old Orchard Road - and demolished some years ago and the site left empty.

In recent weeks contractors have been clearing the plot.
