THE CONTROVERSIAL Kings Drive site in Eastbourne, which is earmarked for more than 100 homes, has been sold.
The Herald understands house builder Bovis Homes has bought the site, which was on the market for £6 million.
It was being sold by the Duke of Devonshire’s Chatsworth Estates with planning permission for flats and houses.
Eastbourne MP Stephen Lloyd, who has led cross party opposition to build on the site next to Eastbourne District General Hospital, is now calling for an urgent meeting with Bovis Homes’ chief executive David Ritchie.
“I will now meet with Bovis as soon as possible to emphasise the depth of feeling about the development in Eastbourne,” said Mr Lloyd. “Sadly, because of the agreed planning permission given by the original planning inspector and despite our opposition, it is unlikely we will be able to persuade them not to proceed with the development. I will, though, urge them to work with local residents and consult residents fully about their proposals.”
