It is believed a member of the public discovered the grenade while clearing out a loft and realising there was a firearms amnesty on with Sussex Police, took it in to the police station shortly before 1pm.

Officers took one look at it, realised it was live ammunition, called the bomb disposal unit and evacuated the area.
