OCTOBER’S winner of the Resident of the Month Award is 13-year-old Emily Stephens, whose brave actions helped save her younger brother when he fell in the River Cuckmere.
Emily didn’t think twice about going underwater whilst still fully clothed to save six-year-old Will during a family walk along the river. He disappeared, but Emily jumped in, swiftly followed by her dad.
Emily’s mother Kate Stephens said, “We are immensely proud of Emily’s bravery and quick thinking in helping save her little brother.”
The Resident of the Month award is jointly sponsored by Advanta Chartered Accountants and the Eastbourne Herald.
Mike Cottingham, a director at Advanta, presented Emily with a special certificate and said, “Emily’s actions and ability to think and act quickly during a distressing situation are truly remarkable.”
Emily is now looking forward to a complimentary meal for two at Ridgways restaurant. To nominate someone email email@example.com or call 411222.
