Building work for the new St Wilfrid’s Hospice has been completed and the keys have been handed over to the charity’s chief executive.
The new hospice off Broadwater Way provides a bigger facility for the town and the surrounding area.
Kara Bishop, chief executive of the hospice, said, “We are so delighted to finally have the keys to the wonderful new hospice. The new hospice honours a long-held commitment to local people. We have been providing hospice care since 1983 and the new hospice will enable us to cope with constantly growing demand for our support for decades to come.”
St Wilfrid’s will be running public tours from August 30 to October 6 six days a week, Tuesday to Sunday.
Ms Bishop is proud of the building and thinks people will be ‘inspired’ when they take a tour.
She said, “At the heart of the new hospice is a light open space that we call The Street it houses the Street Café and a hairdressing salon. We hope that The Street will become a lively social space and will help to change attitudes about hospices. Hospice care is about celebrating life and enabling people to live well until the end of their lives. We hope that thousands of local people will come and see for themselves by booking a tour.”
