Body recovered from foot of cliffs at Beachy Head

The body of a man has been recovered from below cliffs at Beachy Head.

Police and coastguard had been looking for a 50-year-old man reported missing from Surrey on Wednesday morning (September 12) and it was thought that he had travelled to the Eastbourne area.

A coastguard helicopter joined the search and a body, believed to be that of the man, was found shortly after 9am. It was recovered by RNLI lifeboat and taken to Eastbourne.

There are no suspicious circumstances and the matter has been passed to the coroner’s officer.
